My Place, My Life: A Housing Model that Fits Me
A Workshop for Participants & Families
Wednesday, September 24th
6:30 - 8:00 pm

TotalLink Annex - 1200 Shermer Road, Lower Level
Northbrook, IL
This workshop is for adults with intellectual disabilities and their families to explore housing options that promote independence and community living. We’ll start by explaining Supported Living, a flexible model where individuals live as independently as possible with varying levels of support, though there’s no standard definition across services.
Through examples, we’ll show how some families are creating their own solutions for housing, even when purchasing a home is not financially feasible. Engage IL will discuss its advocacy work for new service and funding options within the State of Illinois waiver programs.
We'll highlight how A Happy Life services help prepare individuals for a self-directed, person-centered life in the community. A Happy Life services help define levels of support in a range of settings, especially in a home, apartment, condo, or similar living arrangements. A Happy Life works with individuals and their families to determine what the support looks like and, when necessary, help families to train and hire a personal support worker to accommodate needs.
TotalLink services also play a key role in supporting meaningful lives, offering job assistance and community engagement to help individuals thrive.
This workshop will equip families with tools to navigate housing options and advocate for their loved ones’ independence and self-determination.
